My father built VH-FPE - Stits Skycouple. His name appears on the roll of honor board for planes that were built and flown from Latrobe Valley Aerodrome (as seen in the Phiggles the Flying Scientist Vegemite advert.. The palne was built to plans sent from the U.S. and first flew in 1974. We moved to Adelaide and Dad had a friend (Erle Jones) fly the plane from Latrobe Valley to Parafield Airport. He eventually decided to change the tri-cycle, nose-wheel configuration to tail wheel and set about redesigning it, shifting the centre of gravity towards the tail to make it a tail-wheel. The rebuild was done out of our garage and many a car almost had an accident when seeing the tail of a plane sticking out of the garage. Was even funnier when he decided to attach the wings and fire it up. Gave the neighbours something to wonder about! Anyway, the plane passed all testing and was subsequently flown from Adelaide to Brisbane (Redcliffe) on yet another of our family moves. As Dad got older and had to hand his pilot's licence in, he sold the plane. It has since been onsold and rego indicates the plane now is at Bogan Gate.
